菜鳥媽咪旅行武林秘笈
Start from car travel, and ultimately, air travel is the goal.
Starting March 2019, I have been creating opportunities for me and my parents to take our daughter/ grand-daughter out and get us familiarized with taking her outside, and packing for any short/long distance travel locally.
Car travel Packed Items: Diaper bags with all feeding/hygiene items, car seat, stroller, baby carrier.
Stage 1 (1.5hr) : We started out with taking my daughter to a restaurant for lunch. Of course, she was too little to eat, but the adults had to lunch. We fed her before we left home. So the chance that she needed to eat again would be small. I usually take her to places I have been to so I knew whether it was spacious enough for us to push a stroller in. There was one time that we went to a Chinese restaurant that was quite small, we just get a corner table, and bring in ONLY the car seat.
Stage 2: (2-4hr) : We would go out and have lunch, and then go to a park or somewhere in the city we live for sightseeing. We still fed her before we left home. But we would attempt to feed her outside, so we can get familiar with feeding her outside. Whether it’s breastfeeding in the car, or mixing formula on the spot.
Stage 3: (3-5 hr) : Same approach with previous stages, but we tried to spend longer time outside. The goal was to stay outside longer enough that we needed to change her diaper and there was no diaper changing station available. We wanted to try changing her diaper in the car, whether it’s front seat with the pee pad, or trunk with the pee pad. We only encountered this once, and it was a fun opportunity.
Stage 4: (8hr+) : This was the air travel days. By now, we should be very familiar with the feeding, getting her ready for going out/ loading/unloading car seat, stroller and such, and packing just enough for travel.
